Thirdverse announced that VR sword-action game SWORDS of GARGANTUA is live on PlayStation VR. Vertigo Games Announces Publishing Agreement for VR Air Guitar Music Game

Vertigo Games, the multi-platform VR publisher and developer best known for the platinum selling VR shooter Arizona Sunshine, announced today they have entered into a publishing partnership with Anotherway, a newly formed VR studio led by developers with roots at Microsoft Hololens and Activision, for the upcoming VR Air Guitar music game Unplugged.

“Like many in the VR community, from players to creators, we were impressed by the tempting live gig atmosphere, 80s music fanzine art style and innovative air guitar gameplay shown in the first Unplugged gameplay teasers that circulated online earlier this year,” said Kimara Rouwit, Marketing Director at Vertigo Games. “We’re excited to officially bring aboard the talented Anotherway team and are fully geared towards helping them realize their as of yet unrevealed ambitions for Unplugged, which will see them elevate their great gameplay concept in exciting ways.”

It includes detailed weathering on the facade, campaign signs attached to a garage door and that fire hose. coopertom shared a video of furries exploring a version of the location which is sandwiched between a crematorium and a sex shop as it is in real life.

New Assassin’s Creed and Splinter Cell VR titles announced at Oculus Connect

For the first time, Ubisoft is bringing two of their biggest franchises to VR with new chapters in both the Assassin’s Creed and Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell series. Announced at the Oculus Connect virtual event, the two games will be launching exclusively on Oculus VR.

Both projects are being led by Ubisoft’s Red Storm Entertainment, known for their work on VR titles like Werewolves Within and Star Trek: Bridge Crew, as well as their pioneering work on the Tom Clancy series with such games as the original Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon. The two VR games are also being co-developed by Ubisoft Düsseldorf, Ubisoft Mumbai, and Ubisoft Reflections.

“We are always exploring new ways we can leverage technology to help us create memorable gaming experiences,” said Elizabeth Loverso, Vice President of Product Development, Ubisoft’s Red Storm Entertainment. “Oculus’s state-of-the-art hardware will enable us to bring the worlds of Assassin's Creed and Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell to life for fans in a new way. These games will take full advantage of Oculus’s technology to deliver immersive, visceral experiences that players won’t be able to find anywhere else.”

Oculus Quest 2 leaked

The Oculus Quest 2 VR headset was leaked in a since removed promotional video uploaded to a marketing hub run by parent company Facebook.  The new HMD will be powered by Qualcomm’s XR specific Snapdragon XR2 platform, unlike the general purpose Snapdragon 835 that powered the original Quest. The new headset adds 2 additional gigs of RAM for a total of 6 gigs of RAM.

Polyarc, creators of smash-hit VR game Moss, just secured $9m in Series B funding!

Today Polyarc announced the close of its $9 million Series B fund raise led by Hiro Capital, followed by Vulcan Capital, an existing investor, and Galaxy Interactive via its Galaxy EOS VC Fund, a partnership with EOSIO blockchain software publisher Block.one. Leveraging experience from creating Moss—one of the top-rated virtual reality (VR) games of all time—and the team’s passion to deliver immersive games using today’s VR technology, Polyarc will now add augmented reality (AR) to the studio’s core business competencies. Ian Livingstone, a founding partner of Hiro Capital, will join the Polyarc Board of Directors.

“The thing we want people to remember about Polyarc in 40 years is our characters. Our means to make our characters the most memorable is to build a company oriented around introducing them directly to our players in person. VR, AR, and the spectrum in between, offer an opportunity to connect our players with our characters through physical interaction and emotional feedback in a way that no other medium can match,” said Tam Armstrong, CEO and co-founder, Polyarc. “This round of funding was essential for us to expand our development focus to further embrace VR and AR games.”

ILMxLAB, released a behind-the-scenes video today on their upcoming Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge VR experience.

In Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge, you play a droid repair technician who crash lands on Batuu after a pirate attack. In typical Star Wars fashion, you’ll quickly get swept up into a grand adventure on the outskirts of Black Spire Outpost. “Matching the look and feel of Galaxy’s Edge is our main goal,” says Steve Henricks, visual director, noting that the creative team has worked with artists and assets from the Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run attraction to ensure authenticity. In addition, the experience promises true Star Wars immersion. You’ll listen to a jukebox, play space darts, go into the wilds of Batuu and explore, and maybe best of all, hang out with porgs.

Niantic to donate money from PokemonGo Fest to black gaming projects, community upliftment charities, and trans rights.

Pokémon Go maker Niantic will be making a $5m minimum donation from this year's Pokémon Go Fest ticket sales going toward several causes including funding new projects from Black gaming and AR creators

"We'll be donating Niantic proceeds from Pokémon Go 2020 Fest ticket sales, committing a minimum of $5m," Hanke wrote in a lenghty statement posted to Twitter last night.

"Half of the proceeds donated will be used to fund new projects from Black gaming and AR creators that can live on the Niantic platform, with the ultimate goal of increasing content that represents a more diverse view on the world. The other half will go to US nonprofit organisations that are helping local communities rebuild."

Niantic will also donate $100k and match employee contributions to the Marsha P. Johnson Institute to support Black trans people.

"We are committed to this cause," Hanke wrote. "These initiatives don't end with an announcement. The work to follow through will require years of effort to yield the impact we seek.

"The heart of Niantic is our community of players. It is imperative that we stand up to support our Black Trainers, Agents and Wizards. We aim to be a force of change committed to the long road ahead of rebuilding a more just and fair system where all are welcomed, valued and have a fair chance at success."

The Dagger of Time takes place in the setting of the Prince of Persia Trilogy (Sands of Time, Warrior Within, The Two Thrones). Players are summoned to the Fortress of Time by Kaileena to stop an evil Magi. Kaileena restores and gives the Dagger of Time to the players so they can reach the Hourglass Chamber and use it to stop the Magi.

TDOT is an experience built around cooperation between players of all ages to achieve a shared goal. Collaboration is essential: you cannot succeed without your teammates. Being able to listen and communicate effectively is absolutely key to success.

“Developed by Ubisoft Düsseldorf – which also created two Assassin’s Creed VR escape rooms, Beyond Medusa’s Gate and Escape the Lost Pyramid – and based on The Sands of Time trilogy, Prince of Persia: The Dagger of Time challenges players to explore, (virtually) climb, and use magical powers to solve puzzles with room-scale VR in a dedicated physical space. At the behest of Kaileena, Empress of Time, players will need to escape from the Fortress of Time and prevent an army of Sand Monsters from being unleashed.
